Algar de Benagil

Sculpted over 23 million years by the forces of nature, the cave or cave of Benagil is one of Portugal’s greatest natural wonders. It is close to the town of Carvoeiro and looks like a domed cathedral with a skylight (which is why it is a sinkhole and not a cave as is commonly said).

There is a small beach inside, full of light. Considered by many to be one of the most extraordinary sea caves in the world, it has two arched openings and is only accessible from the sea.
